Treatments/ Porcelain facings
A thin layer of porcelain, mostly resembling the natural enamel, is, after minimal preparation, placed on the tooth.
When your front teeth are very discoloured, have undergone major restorations, deviate in size, form, symmetry or position,
porcelain facings offer a way to give your teeth the form, colour, position and lustre you would like.
The advantage of working with porcelain is that it does not loose it’s colour after years.
For instance coffee, tea, and/or smoking stains do not attache themselves to the porcelain.
The porcelain facings can be finished to the highest detail in our laboratory, in order to achieve a natural fresh colour, brightness and translucency.
In the first animation we see a lady, who had two missing front teeth from birth. In the past the two cuspid/eye-teeth were moved to the place of the missing teeth with orthodontic brackets. The form of these teeth was changed with composite (resin). We changed the form, colour and position of this teeth by the placement of 8 porcelain facings, after a Brite-Smile treatment.
A natural looking smile is the result, allowing her to laugh enthusiastically!
Often it is desirable, when making facings, to freshen up the original colour of the teeth with a Brite-Smile treatment first, which enables us to choose a nice light porcelain colour.
It is important to do this before making the facings, as the colour of the porcelain cannot be changed after placement.
For a good result, it is very important to keep the gum in a good shape.
Facings are very durable restorations with a long lifespan, and are almost maintenance free. As the porcelain facings have a very precise fit and smooth surface, they are easy to clean. This will make the gum lay next to the porcelain with a healthy pink colour.
In the second animation we see Marlous with two discoloured composite (resin) facings on her front teeth.
After Brite-Smile to lighten the starting colour, two porcelain facings were custom made, and after placement a harmonious, fresh, youthful smile appeared!
After years of struggling with my slanted and dark front teeth, I finally decided to get my teeth bleached and place 6 porcelain facings. This is illustrated in animation 4. The final result was the return of a beautiful and natural translucent color and my teeth and gingival edges lined up perfectly straight again.
Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic shells that are bonded to the front surface of the teeth to improve the shape, colour and overall appearance of the smile.
Porcelain veneers are generally more stain-resistant, durable and natural-looking than composite veneers. Composite veneers can often be placed more quickly, while porcelain veneers usually last longer.
With good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, porcelain veneers can last for many years while maintaining their appearance and colour stability.
This depends on the individual situation and the desired result. In many cases, only minimal preparation of the natural tooth structure is needed.
The treatment is usually comfortable. If necessary, local anaesthesia can be used during the preparation of the teeth.
Porcelain veneers are highly stain-resistant and generally do not discolour as easily as natural teeth or composite materials.
Porcelain veneers are suitable for people who wish to improve discoloured, damaged, uneven or slightly misaligned teeth.
The costs depend on the number of veneers and the complexity of the treatment. During a consultation, you will receive a personalised treatment plan and cost estimate.
